Living a Mission-Driven Life
Paula Boggs is the founder of Boggs Media, LLC, a business that manages her music, speaking, and other creative business activities. She is a Tedx Speaker, Writer, Lawyer, Army Veteran, and Musician. She is also a Board Member of numerous organizations.  Paula Boggs served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary of Law and Corporate Affairs at Starbucks Corporation from 2002 to 2012. In 2009, NASDAQ named her its top general counsel. Her prior professional experience includes serving as Vice President Legal at Dell Computer Corporation, and as a partner at the law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis, LLP. She also had a 14-year career in public service, including as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and in various capacities as an attorney for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and the White House Office of Legal Counsel. She served eight years as a Regular Officer in the United States Army, earned Army Airborne wings and a Congressional appointment to the US Naval Academy – among America’s first women to do so.  Since leaving Starbucks, Paula Boggs gives speeches across the United States and beyond, writes essays and music, co-produces albums for, and tours extensively with, Paula Boggs Band. In 2013, President Obama appointed her to the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in 2018 she received the Seattle Mayor’s Arts Award, and in 2021 Southwestern University (Georgetown, TX) conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws.

Planning and Scheduling Basics
The goal of planning and scheduling is to improve the productivity of your workforce.  This will in turn dramatically reduce the waste from your work processes.  In a reactive environment, (greater than 20% of the overall resources allocated to unplanned/unscheduled work), the maintenance productivity of an organization is approximately 30%.  With an effective planning and scheduling focus that number increases to 60%, doubling the amount of work that could be completed.

Tips for Capturing Legacy Building Information
Older buildings are challenging for facility teams, including historical renovations with structural changes. Each building change has its own documentation (closeouts) for only the part of the building that changed. Aligning old and new parts of buildings can be a nightmare as pipes, shutoffs, and equipment move. Many of the original facilities team who know what changes happened are gone. When did something happen in an older part of the building, which drawing sets do you grab?

UW Madison Chilled Water System Optimization
At UW Madison we were hired to reduce operating costs and improve the efficiency of the campus chilled water system.  Their system serves nearly 24 million GSF of buildings with 4 chiller plants with a total nominal generation capacity of 78,000 tons, including 34,000 tons of steam turbine-driven chillers. Cost and Energy savings are on course to achieve $1.3 million without making significant capital expenditures to the plant equipment.
